I am super excited to introduce our classroom economy to everyone.  After a great deal of research over the summer, I have tinkered and collated a lot of other teacher’s ideas to create our very own classroom economy.  It is not my intent that our economy will be a reward system but rather to simulate a « real-life » experience.  I hope that students will learn the following ideas:

  • There are consequences for actions.
  • It is important to take personal responsibility for your own actions.
  • Going the « extra mile » pays off in personal development.  You become a better you!
  • Planning ahead in finances is a good idea.
  • Balancing income and expenses is vital to stay on a sound financial path.
  • Money is earned not deserved.
  • Supply and demand influence the economy.
  • Bank accounts need to be balanced.
  • It is important to understand the terms « credit » and « debit. »
  • A bank is a business that deals with money.  It is important to understand deposits and withdrawals.
  • Saving money is short-term pain for long-term gain.
  • Counting and budgeting money is a necessary life skill.

I will be having many conversations with my students about the economy and how it will work.  They will be given opportunities to ask questions and clarify their understanding.  If you have questions, first check the economy details page.  Second, ask your child as they may be able to answer your question.  However, if necessary, please feel free to contact me.
